Need to move your softener to a new location? We're here to help! Below you'll find instructions on how to depressurize, disconnect, and prepare your unit for moving. Let's get started!
Before You Start
- Confirm that you have a plumbing setup with a 3-valve bypass or other alternative route for water to pass through once the unit is disconnected.
- The softener will need to be transported in a vehicle that allows it to stand upright (not laying on side).

Step 1 - Depressurize the Unit
1. First, you'll need to bypass the water softener by pushing the handle in on the back of your unit. This will stop water from coming in or out of the softener while you work.
2. Go ahead and hold the Recharge button down until you hear the motor start to turn, then let go. The motor will stop after a few seconds. You'll see ‘Recharging’ or 'Recharge Now' flashing on the screen.
3. Press the ‘Recharge’ button one time quickly. The motor will turn on and move to the next cycle.
4. You should repeat Step 3 until the flashing 'recharge' indicator disappears from your screen.
Step 2 - Disconnect the Unit
1. Now, it's time to close the main water shut-off valve in your home. This is generally located near the water meter or pressure tank.
2. Open a few softened water faucets to release pressure in the plumbing. You'll want to keep them open until the water flow stops.
3. For this step you'll unplug the power cord from the wall - but please note your program settings, as they may be lost while unplugged for an extended time.
4. Remove the top cover. If you need additional help, check out our article Removing the Top Cover.
5. On the underside of the top cover, locate the control board. If there's a cover hiding the board, squeeze both sides to remove it.
6. The power supply plugs into the back left side of the control board. Go ahead and disconnect the two red plugs and store the power supply in a safe place for moving. Replace the small cover if you took it off in the previous step.
7. Now, you'll need to find the main drain hose from the back side of the softener valve (by the black motor on top). Pull up and out on the drain hose clip, then pull the drain hose adaptor straight out of the valve head.
8. Remove the overflow hose on the back of the salt tank - find this about 3/4 of the way up the tank. There is a grommet on the inside of the tank that secures this.
9. At the back of the unit, you'll need to gently roll the black C-clips off the Inlet and Outlet ports of the bypass connection. Once they're off you can pull the softener away from the bypass assembly.
10. You can go ahead and put the top cover back on.
11. Check the tank and remove any remaining salt and water from inside. If you have any dry salt, it can be stored in a container for future use.
12. Confirm your plumbing is still depressurized from emptying the lines earlier and adjust your plumbing to bypass the softener loop.
13. You'll want to remove the plastic bypass valve assembly from the pipes. Keep this with the softener.
14. The softener and bypass valve are now ready to move to a new location. DO NOT transport the unit on its side - it should be moved standing upright to prevent damage and movement to internal parts.
15. Once in the new location, visit our Installation Checklist for a refresh on how the unit should be connected.
